Re: Cannot capture using firewire

I have been having the same problem with a JVC GR-DVL120U, from which I was previously able to capture on this same Dell Latitude C810 laptop. After much searching I came across another thread in this same site which directed me to an Adaptec page about automatic network support on 1394/firewire in Windows XP, and changes made in SP2. The refrence is at http://ask.adaptec.com/cgi-bin/adap.. (long URL, but it does take you there). The gist of the message is this:

Answer
Microsoft Windows XP has built in support for 1394 Networking. In addition to loading a driver for the 1394 adapter, Windows also loads a networking component that allows computers to be networked via a 1394 cable.

Rarely will the installation of the 1394 Net Adapter interfere with the currently installed network setup. But there are circumstances where this might happen.

To resolve this issue, we suggest that you perform the following steps:

Remove the 1394 controller and then use System Restore to get the system to the previous state.

Next, browse to c:windowsinf and locate the following two files:

Dvl120u

NET1394.INF & NET1394.PNF

Wacom tablet driver mac os catalina

Nah onenote for mac. Delete both files and reinstall the 1394 card. When the system boots up, it will prompt you for a driver for a 1394 Net Adapter. Cancel the installation for the Net Adapter.

Next, go to Device Manager and look under the Other Devices category and you should see a 1394 Net Adapter with a question mark. Right click on it and choose 'Disable.'

These steps should disable the 1394 networking function and will stop the initial loading of the device but will leave the controller enabled for attaching 1394 devices. This change should not impact the general functionality of the 1394 adapter.'

Hope it helps.
