Solved: double click refuses to work

Sep 07, 2019  Most of the Mac and Windows users always keep mouse arrow moment/ Speed and Double Click or Single click to be set at maximum speed. In this case, you made the wrong set of your system. One of them is occurring in this case. Double click is not working on folder and file for open it, So you have to do right-click on it and tap on Open option. From the submenu to open the Customize Toolbars and Menus dialog. Click on the Keyboard. Button at the bottom right edge of the dialog to open the Customize Keyboard dialog. Select the Edit category on the left, and then scroll down the list of Edit commands on the right and select the Down command.

For maybe 12 months I was frustrated because if I double-clicked an app, file or folder on my MacBook Air nothing happened. I expected the double-clicked item to open, but it never did. It was mystifying, confusing and annoying. Then finally I solved it. Here’s what was going on.

Double click should open things

I’ve used Mac laptops for at least a decade now. Before that I used desktop Macs. And in all that time, I was able to double-click on an app, a file or a folder to open it. It’s always worked, so it was a huge mystery and annoyance to me when it would never work on my MacBook Air.

After some initial troubleshooting I just lived with it. I would Control click an item and choose Open from the contextual menu.

At first I thought it was something to do with Mountain Lion. But once I upgraded my main Mac to Mountain Lion and didn’t have the same problem on that Mac, I realised it was something about the MacBook Air itself.

Check the Trackpad settings

The first step was to check the Trackpad settings in System Preferences.

Tracking Speed actually controls how quickly the cursor shoots across the screen as you move your finger on a trackpad. That setting shouldn’t have made a difference, and in my testing it certainly didn’t affect the problem I was having.

I messed around with the other settings in that Preference Pane just in case, but nothing made a difference. I hadn’t expected it would.

I went back to work and decided to try again another day to solve the problem.

By the way: if it drives you crazy that the cursor moves s-l-o-w-l-y across the screen as you move your finger on the Trackpad, try changing the Tracking Speed. As the screenshot shows, I have mine set to as fast as it can go.

Check the Accessibility settings

The other day I was having another go at solving this annoying problem when I thought to look at the Accessibility settings in System Preferences. There, under Mouse & Trackpad, was my answer: Double-click speed.

My 2010 mac pro has smc 1.39f11 which will not update to 1.5 needed for high sierra. Long story short the CPU bottleneck due to the weak single core performance of these 10ish year old machines is just too much, and just wasn't worth it for gaming. Overwatch seemed to run pretty well however as its not as CPU heavy of a game compared to dota. I tried removing a stick of ram so that I would be running 48GB in triple channel, this helped a bit but by no means fixed it. These frame drops and stutters are due to the weak CPU single core performance of these old CPUs and the 5700 being too much to handle.

At some point when the MacBook Air was new I must have gone in there, moved the slider to Fast and then forgotten all about it.

Once I moved the slider back towards Slow I was finally able to double-click on the Trackpad exactly as I expected.

My MacBook Air is so much more fun to use now. 😉

(Solved) - Touchpad problem- pointer moving but not clicking

Hello everyone!

My problem, as I wrote in the title, is that my touchpad seems to have a problem. It worked fine this morning, but I some point, I couldn't click on anything. I have a Toshiba Satellite with windows 7.
I can still move the mouse around with the touchpad, but I have to 'manually click' on the buttons underneath the touchpad to left or right click on something. It's driving me crazy!! I am used to just click or double click on the touchpad itself and I can't figure out why it won't work all of a sudden. I tried turning my computer off and on again, but for once it won't work..
Any idea why this is happening?

Have you checked via 'Mouse' in Control Panel, that the settings to enable this haven't got altered for some reason?

Yes I did, and nothing is changed in the settings. I tried changing them myself to see if it would work again, but nothing does..

Go to control panel and go to: Ease of Access section and click on the little window where it says: Turn on Mouse Keys. Assuming U R using a laptop just tap in the top of the mouse control box if there is a check mark in that little box. If it doesn't work right away try re-starting ur pc and see if the mouse keys are working. But before U do that go to: Mouse Setting and click it and a popup window will show. Click where it says: Settings and the rest is self explanatory.

italy8868, are you using Synaptic drivers? Maybe 'Enable tapping' was inadvertently uncheck in your mouse settings. In your Mouse properties >'Device Settings > Settings >Tapping check 'Enable tapping' then press ok.

Thanks! The option 'Tap to click' was enabled, but when I disabled it, restarted and re-enabled it, it worked again! God, I'm so happy right now ;)
